Graduation Day is a joyous celebration of the journeys and achievements of Grade 12 students. It is an emotional moment for our graduates and the loved ones who support and care for them.

We invite our community to support Fund-a-Flight, our annual programme to bring scholar families together for graduation. Donations support flights, accommodations and travel costs so that scholars can have a family member by their side.

Brooke Mumbi, Class of 2022 and scholar from Kenya, shares her experience of celebrating graduation with her family.

Seeing my parents after two long pandemic years was what I truly needed. When they flew into Singapore, I remember the joy, anticipation and eagerness to meet them. I wanted them to come and see the beautiful home away from home I had built and meet my circle of friends who had become a family filled with love and compassion. And when they finally saw all this, they were elated. They commended me for the growth and the courage of studying abroad away from them. They also loved the school and all the amazing opportunities it had offered to me and others. During the trip we visited the Botanical Gardens, Marina Bay Sands, National Museum and Gardens by the Bay. They really enjoyed their stay in Singapore. We took so many photos as a remembrance of the beautiful memories of being in Singapore together and also the many beautiful opportunities of UWC. From my experience, I believe that the Fund-a-Flight programme is golden, as it brings families from all over the world together and truly stands with the UWC mission of making education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Today, my parents never stop talking about the Singapore experience. They carried some souvenirs that are well positioned in the living room, to be a constant reminder of the amazing time they had. For them to have seen me graduating after being raised under some complex circumstances, made them realise how truly, backgrounds don’t define people’s futures but rather act as mirrors for people to reflect on and see how far they’ve come. The Singapore experience will remain etched in their hearts and minds for they are forever grateful.

Brooke's parents also shared about their experience as they celebrated graduation with their daughter.

Truly, UWC has been a blessing to Brooke and our family. For us to have visited a country, Singapore, where we never imagined ourselves being, because of UWCSEA and the Fund-a-Flight, we were both humbled and grateful. We hope that this campaign can continue to enable families to be a part of their children’s success and together celebrate the fruits of our labour.
