UWC Day 2021 – We truly can Reimagine Tomorrow

By UWCSEA Communications Department
30 September 2021

During the week of 21 September, UWCSEA celebrated UWC Day in conjunction with monumental events to mark the 50th year anniversary. The week started with UWCSEA Dover students dressing up by the decades, from the 70s all the way to 2000s. Over on East Campus, the week-long celebrations kicked off with a High School debate session, as well as Spirit Week, with students coming to school on Monday dressed in their best Dragon’s wear – inspired by the East Campus mascot, the Dragon.

On the day of the much-awaited UWC Day, our College marked the occasion with the launch of the 50th Digital Time Capsule. The initiative created a shared space for our young community members to engage in the celebration! Available on Flipgrid, students recorded their messages to various prompts during their mentor group sessions and assemblies.

The 50th digital time capsule will be launched this week across both campuses as part of UWC Day. Although this is a small initiative within the 50th programme, we hope some of our key anniversary messages will be reinforced and students will continue to be engaged in the celebration. High School Table Talks also were held, taking us into the minds of our community and their vision for our UWCSEA future and growth! What a memorable way indeed to commemorate our journey ahead, by celebrating our past!

Voices for Peace 2021

Across the week, students also engaged in the Voices for Peace activity, a drawing project on conceptions of peace for UWC Day. Students finished the sentence, “To me, peace means…” with a drawing of their answer!

UWC Day also marks the International Day of Peace. We’re so glad that even in times that we may be limited in showing our physical support, our community spirit stays strong, united and evolving. What a great learning opportunity for our students to understand what this means and express their ideas for the future!
