UWCSEA’s 50th anniversary theme is “there is more in us” and student group Epiphany wanted to add a creative aspect to the celebration by bringing this to life in a commemorative logo designed by students. Inspired by Google’s doodles on their search engine page, and with a strong belief that collaboration is essential for creating change and producing ideas, Epiphany worked with the Student Council who rallied students and budding designers to participate. The aim was to include and celebrate as many students as possible in this celebratory milestone, and it presented the perfect opportunity to connect both people and ideas.

As a start, the Epiphany team focused on the themes of Peace, Celebration and Community for the first logo designs. The unique approach each designer took to embody the different themes displayed their diverse interpretations. The interplay of symbols, colours and even our prized Phoenix and Dragon mascots show that there are different ways of representing who we are, even though we all share the common UWC values.

The sheer amount of talent has reminded us of the importance of thinking creatively. Moreover, the designers have proven that art is such an important form of expression and so it is the perfect medium for communicating ideas around UWCSEA’s 50th Anniversary.

This celebration is a testament not only to 50 years of UWCSEA, but also 50 years of talent. Today, we strive to carry on this legacy through the diversity, unity and creativity of the student body. As the collaboration grows, Epiphany added some new themes for designers to focus on Sustainability and the Founder’s Week to bring an extremely important global issue into the spotlight, and commemorate the visionaries who made us who we are today.

At Epiphany, we say art is not a medium, it’s a movement. With the motto of “there is more in us”, we aim to make art our voice through which we can communicate our thoughts, emotions and perspectives to the world. Art empowers and enlightens us both, and is a formidable force that is truly aligned with our mission statement to “unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future”.
