A celebratory start: Welcoming everyone to a new school year at UWCSEA

Monday, 16 August marked the start of the 2021/2022 school year at UWC South East Asia. A special year in particular as we celebrate our 50th anniversary with our community!
We extend a heartfelt welcome to all new students, families and staff at the College – and equally, a very warm ‘welcome back’ to all returning students, parents and staff. As we continue on in our resilience to changing times and adapt to new ways of sharing our excitement through smiling eyes and gestured hand waves, our UWCSEA community remains a bright light over our students as they head off to a positive start for the school term.
This year, the College welcomes 902 new students and their families to the UWCSEA community. Enrolment is steady, and with 5,642 students across the College – 3,011 on Dover Campus and 2,595 on East Campus – UWCSEA continues to be one of the largest international schools in the world. Our students come from 107 countries and speak over 70 different languages.
This year will be a year like no other, as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary. We have an exciting programme of events, planned by individuals and groups from across our community – staff, students, parents, alumni and partners. There really is something for everyone! Over the coming weeks you will be hearing more details of the programme, and we encourage you to keep abreast of updates on our dedicated platforms.
In her welcome letter to parents ahead of the start of the special school year, College President, Carma Elliot wrote:
I am so proud to be College President during this special year, and look forward to this year with hope and anticipation that we will come together in celebration, while continuing to support each other in weathering the pandemic together.
Together with Madan Menon, our Board Chair, governors, leadership teams, students, parents and all of you, I look forward to a year of joy and reflection on what our legacy means for how we start to shape the future, together.
- Carma Elliot
We wish everyone an exciting and successful year of learning ahead as we continue to strive to educate for peace and a sustainable future! Our community makes us who we are, and we couldn't have done it without you!
